Who is Hernan Cattaneo (Argentina)?
From Bahrain to Belfast, Singapore to San Diego, Hernan Catteneo is on a mission to spread his love for electronic music.
Constantly absorbing new sounds, cultures and influences, Hernan bleeds them into as many projects he can - be they production, his widely acclaimed mix CDs, his world renowned radio shows or his forthcoming music label. Hernan’s dance music journey began in the mid 80s, listening to imported 12’s from Frankie Knuckles, Derrick May and Inner City. Already an avid listener of bands like Depeche Mode and New Order, This new sound inspired and excited Hernan with possibility, and he was driven to express his new passion through Djing, and soon earned a cult residency at Buenos Aires’ Clubland.
The epi-central club of a burgeoning Argentinean dance scene, it’s here at the legendary Clubland where Cattaneo gained the professional respect of Djs like Danny Tenaglia, John Digweed, and most significantly, Perfecto boss Paul Oakenfold. Immediately impressed with Catteneo’s impassioned genre-traversing abilities, Catteneo was invited to join Oakenfold on a European-wide Perfecto tour.
Club giants Cream soon secured him as their South American resident, then later as international resident at Cream Liverpool. Following this were appearances at Burning man, as well as institutions such as Homelands, Bedrock, Pacha and Fabric.
Hernan’s popularity continued to grow in the new millennium with his efforts for Perfecto’s first international mix, ‘South American Volume’. His efforts were rewarded with festival sets at Creamfields, Homelands and Clapham Common Festival in 2001. He quickly turned his hands to production, with a stream of deep, carefully crafted releases on Perfecto, then later on labels such as Bedrock, Deep Dish’s Yoshitoshi and Ministry of Sound.
Hernan truly came into is own with his outings for the legendary Renaissance label. In 2005, he was handpicked to succeed DJ legends like John Digweed and Sasha to mix on the aptly named ‘Masters’ series.
As much as he enjoys crafting records, it’s the human connection of playing live that drives Catteneo. Whether he’s taking festival crowds on an epic journey at Coachella or getting down to some honest house grooves at Pacha Ibiza, he inspires and is inspired in equal measures.
Indeed, as long as he’s playing the music he loves, you can be sure of one thing – that those on the dance floor are in for something special.
